Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening – Frank Capra, Bing Crosby and Jane Wyman

As many of you know, I’ve been reading Capra’s autobiography “The Name Above the Title”.  I’m more convinced than ever, he is the greatest director of all time and I might conceive of a film series dedicated to his film career.

Here is a link to song performed by Crosby and Jane Wyman (at the time few knew she could sing) Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening from the movie “Here Comes the Groom” written by Johnny Mercer and Hoagy Carmichael.  It won the Academy Award for best song.  click here

The song was recorded LIVE! . . the Paramount Orchestra played the music on another stage and the sound was transmitted via radio to the set (into tiny radios in Crosby and Wyman’s ears from antennae loops on the floor) where all the action was shot in one take.  Watch this scene and marvel at how it was done.  It may be one of the greatest scenes ever shot!!!!
